Blondie‘s Debbie Harry butchered a nude model of herself onstage at a recent show.
The singer, who recently claimed that the internet was destroying the music industry, brandished a knife onstage at the Museum Of Contemporary Art Gala in Los Angeles earlier this week (November 13) before stabbing the life-sized model.
According to the Daily Mail, Harry then reached inside the model’s chest and removed its heart – which was made of red velvet cake which was served to guests in the audience – as she told the crowd: “I haven’t eaten a piece of myself… yet.”
Reports indicated that those in attendance were unimpressed with the singer’s display, with the crowd breaking out in a chant of “Violence against women”. An inside source, meanwhile, described the performance as “controversial and unnecessary” before going on to add: “This is appalling for women all over the world who suffer domestic violence.”
Several famous fans also criticised Harry’s show, with burlesque model Dita Von Teese writing on Twitter: “This must be art, because it sure ain’t entertainment.”
Blondie released their ninth studio album ‘Panic Of Girls’ earlier this year. The album, which was the follow-up to their 2003 LP ‘The Curse Of Blondie’, was their first studio effort in eight years.
