Debbie Harry on Blondie’s Marc Jacobs Fashion Week Collaboration

New York Fashion Week added one more high-caliber musical collaboration to its roster yesterday when Marc Jacobs turned his Bleecker Street boutique into a Blondie pop-up shop – just in time for the band to roll into town for their two-evening stand at Highline Ballroom. Before last night’s show, Debbie Harry and Co. held court at the intimate West Village store, signing autographs and copies of new album Panic of Girls for fans, as well as checking out how they looked as Jacobs memorabilia. Among the highlights: $35 Blondie tees (appropriated from iconic photos of Harry), fan packs, books, magazines, and other Sniffin’ Glue era flotsam.

“We did it once before and people really loved it,” Harry said of the collaboration to Rolling Stone. “All the benefits go to Riverkeeper, so it makes sense. Marc and I are both very involved in the downtown arts scene and try to help when we can. The opportunity came up again, so we went for it.”

Jacobs’ specially designed Blondie T-shirts, with their accessible price point and eyecatching visuals, were sold for only a few hours in the afternoon, and were the obvious fan favorite. “Marc found some old photos of me and laid them out how he wanted,” remarked Harry, who is a long-time fan of the designer.

When Jacobs’ shows his Spring 2012 collection Thursday, Harry, a staple at his shows, will be notably absent. “Unfortunately, I’ll be in Boston this time,” she said. “This whole summer has been one long tour.”

No Fashion Week parties for her then? Don’t count her out entirely – Harry and her bandmates partied alongside Dita Von Teese at Chelsea’s Avenue club well into the morning hours.
