Welcome to this special supplement by ELLE and Levi’s that brings you 24 pages celebrating denim and music.
We all love our jeans, and how we wear them expresses our personal identity and style – they are the staple piece in our wardrobes and remain so, even as fashion and styles change.
Jeans are also the uniform of rock, spelling glamour, cool and attitude, and over the years have become just as much an icon as the star who wears them.
It’s fitting then, that the world’s biggest-selling fashion magazine should team up with Levi’s, one of the world’s biggest denim brands, to examine the relationship between music styles and jeans trends, and to salute the music icons who have made an impact on fashion.
We also check out the new bands that will be rocking our iPods in the near future, showcase key pieces from Levi’s/s 07 collection and offer budding designers the opportunity to win a four-month work placement with Levi’s creative team.

Denim rocks!

DEBBIE HARRY
Shamelessly blurring the boundaries between music and fashion, Debbie Harry is our ultimate ELLE music icon. With her band, Blondie, Harry scored her first No 1 with Heart Of Glass in 1979 and quickly followed with a string of pure-pop hits, including Call Me, Rapture and Atomic.
Cool with a capital C, Debbie Harry captivated both rock and fashion photographers in the late 70s and early 80s, and her look and attitude still has huge influence on fashion today.
Harry took the slick night-clubbing look of the period – strappy, silky dresses and glossy hair and make-up, and turned it on its edge, wearing her skirts shorter, her heels higher and injecting a punk attitude. She pioneered the cartoon-emblazoned T-shirt and skinny jeans look, and sexed up the ubiquitous 70s-style vest by adding rips to the neckline.
Her famously bleached, mussed-up blonde hair, amazing cheekbones and perfect Monroe pout, made Harry a sex goddess in her heyday. Looking amazing in diaphanous one-shoulder dresses and leggings, or avant garde in leotard and tights, Debbie Harry blazed a trail for the next three generations of rock chicks. We salute you!
